Advice for Americans traveling abroad
According with U.S. government the following advice are to be followed:
Before you go
- Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
- Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
- Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
- See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
- Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
- Tell your bank you’re travelling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.
- If you’ll drive overseas check out the local traffic laws and practices. You’re likely to need an International Driving Permit (IDP) as well as your US driver’s license.
- Share your itinerary with friends or family members. Give them copies of your passport
Travel insurance
Holidays don’t always go as planned. If you’re going overseas, travel insurance is as important as a passport. Without it, you or your family could suffer financially if things go wrong. No matter who you are, where you’re going and what you’re doing, get insurance.
Travel insurance is especially important if you need medical assistance. Healthcare overseas can be very expensive. Most countries won’t give you free care, or subsidies the cost of your care. You, or your insurer, must usually pay full price.

U.S. citizens require a passport while in Spain & Morocco. Tourist visa is not required for citizens of U.S. for a stay up to 90 days. Spain is a member of the European Union so it shares the same legal legislation – a passport is all you need.
All countries have their own visa requirements, which may change at short notice. However, please check with your local embassy or consulate for the very latest information for your nationality. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have all necessary visas for your travels. Try to obtain your visas before departing from your home country as it’s much easier than abroad.
Spain – EURO (EUR) Morocco – Moroccan Dirham (MAD) You can arrive or depart with a maximum of MAD 1,000. Declare all amounts in foreign currency more than MAD 100,000 on arrival and departure. Only exchange your currency at commercial banks and licensed exchange bureaus in Morocco. Credit cards are accepted in large hotels, restaurants and malls. ATM machines are available at banks, airports and shopping centers all over the country. (except in remote areas or villages). Foreign currencies may be exchanged at banks or authorized exchange offices. International airports and larger hotels also offer currency exchange services. The tour guide is also responsible for helping clients with money exchange; recommend the exchange offices which charge the lowest commission.
ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines) are becoming more common and usually you can choose either English or German on the screen for Spain, however for Morocco you can only find it in bigger cities. Remember, if the ATM doesn’t work after the first two tries; find another machine, as it may retain your card the third time. Always make sure no one else sees your PIN number when using ATMs. The amount of money you will be able to obtain will depend on your credit limit and on the particular bank you do business with.
In Morocco and Spain, the power sockets are of type C and E. The standard voltage is 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz, AC, usually 2 pronged. Your need for a power plug adapter depends on the power plugs used in your own country. The support vehicle will also have power outlets for you to use whilst on the road.
Found on the beautiful Costa del Sol coastline, in the Andalucia region, Malaga makes the most of the late summer sunshine in October. The Mediterranean Sea reaches nearly 20°C and the warm waters help to keep inland temperatures very mild as well. The southern Spain weather in October is very pleasant and mild, with warm temperatures thanks to the Mediterranean climate. Rainfall rises compared to the peak summer months, but any showers are usually short and sharp, and the heat and sunshine soon dries the ground. Morocco’s North African location means that most of the country enjoys warm weather all year round, and it still feels like summer in October. The nearby Sahara Desert means it never gets too cold, but you’ll get differences in weather depending on where you go. Seasons and weather in Morocco take on a whole new meaning as the country is divided into two climatic zones by the High Atlas Mountains. To the north of the High Atlas, the western winds from the Atlantic contribute to the cooler temperatures of the north. Contrastingly, south of the High Atlas, the weather is influenced by the Sahara desert. The average high temperature in Marrakesh during October is 27ºC during the day and getting cooler during the evening. The average sea temperature’s 21ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from around 40% to as high as the mid-90s%. Average rainfall’s 22mm across three rainy days. Cool cottons are best to pack, also don’t forget some clothes for cooler, wet weather.
