Because Transfăgărășan Pass is situated 2042m above sea level and is the Best in the World! This road was built between 1970 and 1974 as a military route, by communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. In addition the road constructed after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 snakes up the tallest peaks of the Carpathians.

Because its high altitude the road is open only 3 – 4  months per year. You can find walls of snow on the side of the road even in July.
